Details: For hundreds, probably thousands of years, Faversham Creek and the surrounding watercourses and estuaries have provided a vital conduit for commerce and prosperity in this region of Kent. Although the last cargo was handled in 1989, the Creek still plays host to a wide variety of craft.

The once prolific picturesque Thames sailing barges, formerly a mainstay of local trade, and a century ago built alongside these same waters, may still be seen here; yachts of all types, classic and modern; restored fishing smacks and other 'native' craft; all grace the quays and berths of this historic waterway, previously the scene of a very different way of life.

Frank Taylor spent his spare time during his school years and his early career working on and around these ancient waterways. Now in retirement, he has written down his recollections from the post war years of the trades carried out on the banks of the Creeks, and the importance of the Port of Faversham. He has delved back in time to the formation of the Faversham Navigation, and writes of the various schemes and improvements from time to time proposed. In addition to this fascinating insight into the ways of this maritime community, he has recorded details of some of the craft built, owned and operated on the Creek. To this narrative has been added a quite remarkable collection of over 100 photographs, many over 100 years old, and the majority never before in print.

This book is both a history of and guide to this fascinating part of the north Kent coastline.
